because I don’t want to give away any spoilers for book one… I love this series

** This is book two of The Witness Series and should be read after book one**

I hope you are reading this review after having read book one, because I don’t want to give away any spoilers for book one…

I love this series. It is suspenseful, dramatic, and hot, everything I love in a great book and series. Sam, (aka Mallory, Emily, Jennifer) has been relocated again… and this time, it’s after she finally found something worth fighting for…. Brian.

Sam is a strong, independent character, for everything that is thrown her direction she takes it in stride. The one person she counts on is herself (that’s my opinion of her). If I had to live the life she had to, I don’t think I would have become half the woman she was in this story. Her life is dramatic and suspenseful and it had me on the edge of my seat and cheering her on.

Book two picks up 4 years after her and Dev were separated and he never came to find her, so Sam does what she does best, she starts over. But when she gets the news that everything is over and she can be herself again, she sets out on an “adventure” to find him with her own secrets to “air out”.

Dev (aka Brian) is the one, the one to change Sam’s life around, but when things fall apart he has to leave Sam, and I about damn near cried. Dev is everything a woman could want in a man, dominate, loving, and devoted, but there is a problem, he also lives his life full of secrets.

There are some major twists and turns in this book that will have you asking yourself if love can really conquer all. So, if you have read book one and are ready for more, Becoming Somebody was a great continuation of Sam’s story!

*** Warning…. It has a little bit of a cliff hanger (but that’s what keeps us wanting more ;) )

Another homerun for Heather D'Agostino

Heather D'Agostino has incredible talent. I've read quite a few of her books and I'm always glued to the page. Becoming Somebody was a fast-paced read that kept me flipping the pages long into the night. I love the author's writing style and the way she pulls you into the story. I also think she did a fantastic job with Mara's character and the array of emotions a four-year-old can experience in a short period of time. All and all, i highly recommend this book.

Pins and needles

I've have been waiting for what seems like forever for this book and now that I finished it I'm on pins and needles again!! I think D'Agostino must have been a evil person In a past life who gets their jollys now by writing awesome books that hook you in and then makes you wait for the next one!!
Sam and Dev are definitely soulmates, they belong together. I can't wait to see what Jase and Tess have in store for us and for Dev to come HOME!!!!

Steve Kowit believes, and rightly so, that poetry should show, not tell. The same could be said for good teaching, which is what makes this volume so remarkable. In In the Palm of Your Hand Kowit employs more than 100 poems and excerpts to illustrate his discussions on everything from metaphor to meter to metaphysics. Working your way through this book--and it is work--is like sitting in on a terrific creative-writing seminar, minus the criticism (both constructive and destructive) of fellow students. If you go by the book, you'll have written at least 69 poems by the end. Because of its explication of the basic tenets of poetry, In the Palm of Your Hand might be mistaken for a beginners' book only. That would be a shame. There are so many good ideas here that more experienced poets won't want to miss out; Kowit has lots of exciting ways to invigorate one's writing. (Here's a favorite quick tip: "A good rule of thumb is never to use a word that you're proud of.") In the Palm of Your Hand is also recommended for members of writing groups who are interested in imposing some kind of structure on their meetings.

Kowit really delivers what his title promises, so that reading the book is like taking a workshop with a generous poet willing to share everything he has learned about the creative process and the craft of poetry. Conversational in tone, it reads rather like an informal lecture. One of the books I would never be without.

I bought this book just on a whim. It sounded interesting, the reviewers thought it was pretty good and so I sent off for it. That was two years ago, and I have read and reread it pretty much constantly ever since.
His style is friendly, engaging, encouraging, occasionally chiding (in the nicest possible way) and very very inspiring. Each section focuses on specific aspects of writing - writing from memories, working with imagery and metaphor, how (and why) to revise, word music, experimental forms, traditional forms etc etc. Even a section on "Aweful Poems"! And believe it or not, that section was one of the most enlightening.
He uses copious examples from contemporary poets to illustrate the points he is trying to get across, and ends each chapter with a series of exercises to make certain that you understand what you've been reading. Sounds tame, sounds boring, sounds mechanical, but oh, it is not!
The final section - Nuts and Bolts - deals with the business of poetry as a business; the pros and cons of Poetry Workshops, where, when and why to start submitting your poetry. That sort of thing. And one of the nicest touches is the poem selected to end the book - Fleur Adcock's "Future Work" (on page 263, go on, have a look). It pretty much sums up the whole feeling of this book.
The only downside is the certainty of writers cramp afterwards ...

Wonderful Book

What a helpful, inspiring book. The author really helps to make the writing process more productive and less intimidating. He clearly explains how to write different types of poems and gives excellent examples of the types of poems that he talks about. He makes the process much less mysterious and in the process, he inspires the reader. I hadn't had the courage to write any poetry for years. This book has helped me to finally start writing again.

My poetic savior!

As a writing major and tutor at UCSD, I have toted Kowit's book in my backpack as my constant and faithful companion. I've enjoyed witnessing my own as well as others' poetry, and writing in general, improve through the insightful suggestions in this book.
As an instructor, Kowit encouraged me to "have fun" with my writing. This book echoes his personally delivered sentiment, since it masquerades as a fun way to approach writing, but actually is a serious tool for poets who are serious about their craft.
This book helped me to examine my old, bad writing habits and ruts. Now, I hold my trite lines up for my own students to scoff at. If I improved, so could they. Under the tutelage of Kowit's warmth and wisdom, I finally am able to churn out good poetry that my professors compliment me for. No one can stop me now.
Thank you, Steve Kowit, for putting this one in the palm of my hand!

This is a very engaging story. You like the characters and the story moves along at a good pace. Magical creatures galore. But..........if the author does not know how to spell, surely her computer has Spell Check. And if she doesn't have Spell Check, surely she has a friend who can proofread the books for her. Very poorly edited. She gave us a vile of poison. Not a vial, but a vile. And called it a vile all thru the scene.
I am currently in Book 3 and have already read a spoiler in one of the reviews. I don't mind spoilers, but now I am going to be wondering when one of the main characters is going to die.
I just finished the series. Cliff hangers all over the place, but a very satisfactory ending. The main character I thought would die, did, and I even shed a tear for them. The first book is the one with all the spelling errors - books 2, 3 & 4 improved considerably.

I am so glad I got the whole set, I don't think I could of waited if I had just got the first book in this series. Loved this wonderful journey that Kiora, Emane and Alcander embark on. Magical creatures galore!! I laughed, sighed and giggled throughout. And then the author made me cry!! Dam it!!! I yelled at my kindle following my breakdown. This series is so well written that it pulls you in so you feel apart of the story. I would recommend this series to anyone who wants to feel the story come to life.! And after the ending I don't think I can stay mad at the author for that, YOU KNOW WHICH PART. Awesome

As I'm writing my review my heart is hurting I never thought it would hurt so much, I have this book for over a month but since I had a feeling about Emane I prolonged my reading. My heart is in million pieces I but the ending boy the ending was brilliant I just wished it had a little different with him in it. I love this story it really got to me, I can't believe it took me this long to grab this book and now that I did is so hard to let go.

Good All-Around Book

This proved to be a good all-around book in endodontic microbiology. The organization of the chapters allow for reading for specific material without having to read the entire book. The chapters are terse enough that the clinician won't get bogged down in basic research microbiology. There are also a few good clinical chapters. One negative is that the chapter on facial infections includes nothing but medical material on necrotizing microbial infections. This is a nice diversion, but not relevant. Overall, this is a good introductory book for the doctoral student; a good review for the post doctoral student; and a handy reference for the clinician.

Good book but how did it get so expensive.

Although some of the topics and the content is a bit outdated, it does a decent job of connecting the grammar part of the course with its cultural context. The author obviously spent quite of bit of time on the topics discussed.
I bought the book two semester ago and everywhere it was at half the price. i dont see why the author needed to jack up the price on us students. At $50 it is a good book but at $115+ it is too expensive. Where is my $65 going to? Books don't fluctuate that much on price at least not on the same edition. I dont know i just feel value isn't there for the price.

Inaccurate Description/Listing for book by both Amazon and the Publisher Pearson

While this is in fact a textbook what you are not told is that about half of the recipes, which are shown in red print in the Table of Contents, require you to pay an extra $65 to be have access to the publishers web site called Pearson Kitchen Manager. Additionally, there is MyCulinaryLab that you must pay for to do exercises, etc that requires you to provide the Course Code for the class you are taking at college to gain access. So no course code no access. What is frustrating is that none of this is mentioned. Also this specific listing does not come with the electronic media. Yes it is mentioned but only if you expand the description. It is not mentioned right up front. So Amazon needs to give a better description and not by buyers finding out after the purchase by going to the Publishers web site.

Having said that I would recommend the book but be aware of what you are NOT getting.

A Chefs Textbook

This is a great book. It is not a cook book, it is a textbook for professional chefs in training. I am not a chef in training but a home cook who is interested in elevating my cooking. The book is easy to read and very interesting.

I rented this book for school. I received The Professional Chef (CIA) as a gift last Christmas and thought it would be sufficient, but this book is chock full of good info (and good eatin'). I'm thinking about keeping it because they complement each other well.

About the Author
The late John Campbell was an authority on naval weaponry and this book is the culmination of a lifetime's research. He was a regular contributor to the Warship journal and is the author of Jutland: An Analysis of the Fighting as well as works on Queen Elizabeth class battleships, First World War battlecruisers and he was a major contributor to the Conway's All The World's Fighting Ships series.

Good information - Very poorly printed

As an original copy is seldom available, this bad reprint provides the best source for this data in one book. WARNING - have your reading glasses ready - this edition is a poorly scanned copy of the original - most type is readable, but blurry. Pictures have too much contrast and lack detail. Line diagrams have fine lines and small type faded away.
Even with these faults, there is still a wealth of data to make this a keeper

THE World War II Naval Weapon Reference

Without a doubt, this is one of the finest reference works for the purist that I have ever purchased. This is a highly technical book, and, as such, is not for everyone. If you ever wanted to know whether a naval gun was built-up, autofretted or loose-linered, then this is the book you want to purchase. If you have no clue as to what those terms mean and are looking for a more traditional work on the Second World War, then quickly move on to the next book on your shopping list; as this one is not for you.

This latest edition has apparently not been updated to correct mistakes and ommissions found in the original 1985 publication and is simply a reprint of the original work. For example, the data on Soviet/Russian weapons found in this book is quite limited. Much more data, both in terms of volume and in accuracy, has come to light on those weapons since the end of the Cold War, but none of it has found its way into this newest edition.

However, I would consider this to be a relatively minor failing, as the amount and quality of the data on nearly every other nation's weapons is simply overwhelming in its scope and in its detail.

The 2002 edition has some quality issues, and appears to have been simply digitally copied from an original rather than being a new press run. As a result, the pictures appear "grainier" than in the original 1985 printing.

All in all, I highly recommended this book.

Its a very good -but dated- reference book to have at your disposal. Unfortunately if I ever find any discrepancy with Cambell's book and the "Navweapons. Com" internet site, I always defer to the latter.
