Good book but how did it get so expensive.

Although some of the topics and the content is a bit outdated, it does a decent job of connecting the grammar part of the course with its cultural context. The author obviously spent quite of bit of time on the topics discussed.
I bought the book two semester ago and everywhere it was at half the price. i dont see why the author needed to jack up the price on us students. At $50 it is a good book but at $115+ it is too expensive. Where is my $65 going to? Books don't fluctuate that much on price at least not on the same edition. I dont know i just feel value isn't there for the price.

Inaccurate Description/Listing for book by both Amazon and the Publisher Pearson

While this is in fact a textbook what you are not told is that about half of the recipes, which are shown in red print in the Table of Contents, require you to pay an extra $65 to be have access to the publishers web site called Pearson Kitchen Manager. Additionally, there is MyCulinaryLab that you must pay for to do exercises, etc that requires you to provide the Course Code for the class you are taking at college to gain access. So no course code no access. What is frustrating is that none of this is mentioned. Also this specific listing does not come with the electronic media. Yes it is mentioned but only if you expand the description. It is not mentioned right up front. So Amazon needs to give a better description and not by buyers finding out after the purchase by going to the Publishers web site.

Having said that I would recommend the book but be aware of what you are NOT getting.

This is a great book. It is not a cook book, it is a textbook for professional chefs in training. I am not a chef in training but a home cook who is interested in elevating my cooking. The book is easy to read and very interesting.

I rented this book for school. I received The Professional Chef (CIA) as a gift last Christmas and thought it would be sufficient, but this book is chock full of good info (and good eatin'). I'm thinking about keeping it because they complement each other well.

THE World War II Naval Weapon Reference

Without a doubt, this is one of the finest reference works for the purist that I have ever purchased. This is a highly technical book, and, as such, is not for everyone. If you ever wanted to know whether a naval gun was built-up, autofretted or loose-linered, then this is the book you want to purchase. If you have no clue as to what those terms mean and are looking for a more traditional work on the Second World War, then quickly move on to the next book on your shopping list; as this one is not for you.

This latest edition has apparently not been updated to correct mistakes and ommissions found in the original 1985 publication and is simply a reprint of the original work. For example, the data on Soviet/Russian weapons found in this book is quite limited. Much more data, both in terms of volume and in accuracy, has come to light on those weapons since the end of the Cold War, but none of it has found its way into this newest edition.

However, I would consider this to be a relatively minor failing, as the amount and quality of the data on nearly every other nation's weapons is simply overwhelming in its scope and in its detail.

The 2002 edition has some quality issues, and appears to have been simply digitally copied from an original rather than being a new press run. As a result, the pictures appear "grainier" than in the original 1985 printing.

All in all, I highly recommended this book.

Its a very good -but dated- reference book to have at your disposal. Unfortunately if I ever find any discrepancy with Cambell's book and the "Navweapons. Com" internet site, I always defer to the latter.

Honestly, the book itself is wonderful. Very well written. This is probably the first textbook that I dont mind doing the reading assignments. However, I feel ripped off. I thought I was getting a great deal and then I come to find out that people got it for $30 here and I got it for $80. There was not "rent textbook" button anywhere so i had to buy it. I mean, its not even the latest version of the book. But I do take some responsibility because I should have done better at researching this book.

Historical fiction at its best!

Gentle Harrie Clarke felt like she was coming apart at the seams; haunted by the earlier actions of her friends, Friday Woolfe, Sarah Morgan and herself where a man had died (admittedly he had deserved it), she couldn’t stop her thoughts going there continually. Her guilt was eating her up and blackness was creeping into her soul. To take her mind off her troubles, Harrie agreed to learn the art of tattooing when local tattooist Leo offered her the job. She was to practise on Friday, but Friday knew that Harrie’s work would be impeccable – her art was unique; her tattoos would reflect that.

Bella Jackson, now a high-brow brothel owner in Sydney Town, had first met Friday, Sarah and Harrie on the Isla when they were all transported to Australia in the 1830s for various misdemeanours; they all hated one another – Bella was vindictive and cruel plus she was blackmailing the girls. But murder and mayhem was rife on the streets of Sydney Town and when it connected them all, the consequences were dire.

Then when things couldn’t possibly become worse for Harrie – they did. Her devastation was immense; she felt herself losing touch with reality and didn’t bother to fight it. Would grief and torment always be a way of life for Harrie Clarke, or would her friends (who had troubles of their own) be able to unite and save her? And what would be the outcome?

Oh my goodness, I LOVE this series!!! The Silk Thief by Aussie author Deborah Challinor was completely and absolutely amazing! Historical fiction at its best; and with the distinct Australian flavour makes it so much more delectable. Highly recommended, but please start at book #1.
