This is a great book, a perfect compact size and geared toward begining chem students. The book is designed in a very non intimidating and user friendly manner with practice problems and their solutions throughout every chapter. It prepares the student for more advanced chemistry classes extremely well and I would recommend the book to anyone looking to do exceed in chemistry. The book was so helpful that I referenced it throughout my general chemistry classes.

Finding answers to some excercises can be a bit challenging, but for the most part it is an excellent book. Each page contains the name of a celebration or observance, a simply written paragraph describing it, and an illustration showing people participating in it. Two pages of notes give more specific details. The basic text gives too little information for most children. For example, readers unfamiliar with Loy Krathong, Diwali, or Eid al-Fitr won't learn when or where they are celebrated unless they turn to concluding notes, which are written on a higher reading level and are in much smaller print. Colorful, simply shaped cut-paper pictures show people engaged in the celebrations. These spirited and cheerful illustrations are the book's strength, but the presentation is too confusing for the intended audience. Kid loves it, a few drawbacks

Well, I have to say that my 10 month old loves this book. He usually grabs this one if he's not in sleepy mode. I am glad to have a book like this that is colorful, full of happy faces and will entertain a wide age range.

Unfortunately, the pages are a little thin/weak and have quickly been destroyed by my child. To be expected from an infant, but I would appreciate slightly thicker, more durable pages since this is a book geared towards kids that can be useful for many years.

The picture for Dia de los Muertos is a bit off, since it is not a time that kids play with pinatas. Maybe some other inaccuracies in the book, but otherwise I like the entertainment value of the book with a nod towards intercultural understanding. I will probably be buying another copy when my child is a bit older.

I love the illustrations in this book and it is one of my children's favorites. I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 because when it describes the Fourth of July it states "When freedom first rang on our land", I don't feel comfortable with that line. We cannot say that the indigenous people of this land weren't free before being invaded.

Great intro to holidays around the world for young children.

This is a very brightly designed book that has fantastic illustrations. The text is easy to read for a first level reader. More importantly, each holiday has a detailed explaination in the back of the book. Great illustrations by Peter Linenthal. The only complaint I have is that the author chose the Jewish holiday of Hannakah instead of Passsover or Rosh Hashana. Hannakah is a minor holiday.

Must have for materials engineers

If you are searching for this book you probably already know what it is. If you are in materials related research, it is imperative that you acquire this book. It contains compositional tables that are invaluable if you often find yourself looking at an EDS spectrum and you are thinking "Hmm... what alloy is this?". Each metal or alloy (ferrous and non-ferrous) is addressed with at least compositional information, common applications, corrosion resistance, and mechanical properties. It is comprehensive and well worth the purchase.

I have said this elsewhere, but I consider this book to be one of the "must haves" for technical reference books. With a recent edition of the CRC Handbook of Chemistry and Physics, Perry's Chemical Engineer's Handbook, Mark's Standard Handbook for Mechanical Engineers, Machinery's Handbook, Bosch Automotive Handbook, and Metals Handbook, one person has an excellent overview of the entire Industrial Revolution. I call this library of books the "Build-Your-Own-Civilization Library". If you like handbooks (I cherish them), get this one, then go buy the others.

One volume condensation of the Metals Handbook

This is a one-volume condensation of the Metals Handbook. The full handbook comprises over 20 phonebook-sized volumes, so a single-volume is a welcome addition to the series. Being a single volume it cannot be as comprehensive as the full multi-volume set, but it does include all of the basic and most important information. It focuses on providing information on various classes of alloys (steels, Al alloys, Cu alloys, etc.) with a separate section on other topics, such as casting, forging, joining, etc; where the complete set has separate volumes on these other topics and a single volume on ferrous alloys and one on non-ferrous alloys. This is an important addition for the library of any metallurgist, structural engineer or anyone who needs information on metals and the utilization of metals.

Good for a Sarah Jane Adventure Audio-Book CD

I enjoy the Sarah Jane Adventures, so I ordered the audio CD the GOLDEN STORM, it was not the CD that came. I received The THIRTEENTH STONE, instead. I still enjoyed The THIRTEENTH STONE adventure.

I am disappointed that I didn't get the story I ordered. Now is the GOLDEN STORM adventure the same as the GLITTERING STORM? I suppose I won't be finding out now from this CD audio book.

I have The THIRTEENTH STONE already from audibles download.
Well, at least now one adventure can be on the go with me. I like the story, after all it does have the main characters and is read by Elisabeth Sladen!!

BEWARE!!! Not the title shown!

I have the same situation as the previous reviewer. I also received "The Thirteenth Stone" when I ordered this CD. That's fine with me because I don't have it yet, but since the title says "The Golden Storm", that's what it should be. (Even though I now notice that the picture actually is "The Thirteenth Stone" and not The Golden Storm.)
