Wonderful read!

Great book! A wonderful read that gives you the oppertunity to gain some prospective on what life can be like living with a special needs family member. Rachel's storytelling will put a smile on your face as she relates life events and shows you that sometimes to make it through difficult times you just need to find the humor in the situation and laugh. I could not put this book down and read it in one sitting, I only wish there was more!

I found Applesauce on the Ceiling to be a down-to-earth, engaging, and enlightening collection of one big sister’s best stories about having a younger brother with Down syndrome. Rachel Unklesbay instantly befriends you with her colloquial voice and anecdotes, which mesh beautifully to create a fun and easy read about some very serious real-life challenges. Unklesbay is a gifted storyteller who uses her great sense of humor to somehow make a collection of seemingly simple stories move and educate the reader about circumstances that are unique to life with an exceptional family member. At the same time, the book demonstrates how we all may struggle in life in different ways but generally have the same opportunity for growth, love, and harmony within family relationships. Great book!

Refreshingly honest, funny and different.

A fun read from an unusual perspective. Rachel's writing about her special needs brother is refreshingly honest, funny and different. From her perspective this is normal, no agonizing acceptance, or special sacrifices, just normal growing up with a her family. The stories are funny but stop short of comedy. She resist the urge to sacrifice her family on the alter of comedy. This is good, funny, occasionally inspirational, but not Erma Bombeck drop to the floor laughing.
4 stars because I wanted more than 129 pages.
